You Know You're A Med Student When...

I'm getting through medical school with the help and support from friends, family, and "those who have come before me." This is my way of passing the torch and sharing my thoughts for those who are about to set foot of the same path. WE ALL GET BY WITH THE HELP OF FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND THE BIG MAN UPSTAIRS.

Britney's Night in the Valley

I'm so sick of hearing about Britney Spears. But one of my favorite comedians, David Spade, did a really funny enactment of a really stupid decision made by Britney.

Success!!

Here are some of the links to the videos that I took on my vacation weekend. I still haven't been able to figure out how to embed them into the blog, but one step at a time!

Afternoon Show at WDW

It's a Small World After All ride... Hope this song gets stuck in your head, like it was in mine for an entire day.

Fireworks... At this point, they had the voice of the Genie from "Aladdin" narrating.

More Pics of My Weekend Getaway

More pics of the castle...just want to show you the different colors that they projected onto the castle. The fireworks turned out really clear. What was cool was that they had the entire 20 min. of fireworks sync'ed to music and other special effects.

Dumbo.
Space mountain: still an all-time favorite of mine ever since I first rode it when i was 8 with my dad and sister.
Pic of one of the shows that went on. this is for my grandmom, who's a Donald Duck fan.

This guy creeped me out. He came right up into my face and kept staring. So, I started to taunt him. I even offered some of my Dippin' Dots to him. He's not supposed to smile, but I saw a cheek quiver, so I knew he was laughing on the inside. Behind him is the actual Mummy ride. It was crazy! It was an inside roller coaster that spun you, took you backwards, and even took you through fire. Great ride.

Pics of Last Weekend's Vacation

Here's a taste of what I did last weekend. I'm still shifting through the pics. Of couse, I won't be posting any of friends of myself. Sorry for the delay...I've come down with bronchitis, and haven't been up to posting. Yucky IL-2!!!It does exist!! "Fried shrimp, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo...."

I'll never be too old to visit here, although I have to say, I'll never go on a Saturday again.
The craziest roller coaster I've been on: the Hulk. I rode it by myself (everyone else chickened out). It took off suddenly without warning, and from there....

Even though I was away, I still found myself a library to study at. Just kidding. It's a backdrop used in some movie. i.e. it's fake (although I still tried opening the "doors").

School Update

So, it's been crazy...as usual. We're halfway through the semester, though, so I'm almost finished with the island bit. Hard to believe. When I first started out, I thought that 2 years would take forever. Now, they've flown by. It almost makes me want to stay. Almost. Not quite.

This Friday, I have 2 ICM exams: H&P and Harvey. Saturday, I have CPR training for 8 hours. Followed by one full week of lots of ICM stuff: the written final, our real patients (for the genital exams), etc.

That's pretty much it. i'll be posting pics of my weekend vacation soon. They turned out really good.

My Brush With Fame

See if you recognize this celebrity. Being from the east coast, my close-ups of a celebrity are essentially nil, so this was a big deal for me. I was 5 feet away from this person (you're looking at the blond in the photo) while she was shooting a commerical for DisneyWorld.com I'm proud to say that I was the first in the crowd to figure out who she was.

p.s. My sister didn't know to look at the blond, so she thought I was referring to the guy in the black sweatshirt and hat, who she thinks looks like Patrick Dempsey from Grey's Anatomy.

P.P.S. HINT: this celebrity became famous after being on Survivior: Australia and is currently a cohost of "The View"

New pics

Here are some pics using the "aerial view" function on my camera. (captions appear underneath each photo).
Some random island not too far from St. Maarten. I have no idea which one.

Puerto Rico.
This is a shot of the propeller. Typical pic, in that you can't see the individual blades. But look at the next pic to see what the camera can do:
The camera managed to capture the movement of the blades so that you could see each one individually. How this happened, I don't know, but it's not a fluke: I took multiple pics like this one.

They're Back....

Hey, recognize these?
This has been my latest step 1 conquer...to master enzyme kinetics ...again. And to think that, almost 2 years ago, I was excited to put this behind me.

Getting Aquainted

I've been forced by blogger to use their new Beta system, which will be interesting, since I, the inept techy, will end up taking forever just to get this one sentence posted.

Sentence number 2: on the plus side, I can now play around with text colors, fonts, and size. Yippee!!

Random Pictures

Bare with me: I'm still playing around with my new camera.

My favorite bakery (the one near Fed Ex and Capaccino's). Something was going on there, but I couldn't quite tell. Extending the dock, maybe?

Everyone's favorite ice cream place!

This photo was taken through the window.

Again, taken through a window. I've always liked this building.

Playing With the Scenery Function on My Camera

Happy Hour

Glad some people are having fun =)

Boo To 5th Semester

The pic explains why no one has seen or heard from me. path, BBCM, and ICM...way tooooooo much for one person to handle. I took down Jan's schedule, it looked even worse than February's. I still have more things to pencil in that are written on various post it notes on my desk.

What all past 5th semesters have said to me is the truth: you don't have nearly enough time in the day to get everything done that you need to get done for Kaplan. I've barely touched any of it. I spend about 4 hours a day in class for ICM alone, then I have write ups to do. There are essentially 4 exams for this class, all coming up: an H&P exam (in 2 weeks), a Harvey Lab exam (in 2 weeks), a written exam (in 3 weeks) and a male/female physical exam (what do you know...in 2 weeks). I also have CPR around this time, mtgs with clinical site people, path exams, and shelf exams. Arrggghhh!

Okay, enough venting. Positivity will just be oozing out of me after this. =)

Newly Named Tien Gym

Our newly relocated gym (in all its glory goldness). Haven't figured out why they have a window shutter surrounding a mirror. Hmmm....

New Camera, New Photos

Thanks to Paul Kyser, AUC's premier blogger, I went to Phillipsburg and got a great camera at a really good price (my old one broke). I checked several stores, did my research, and ended up with a Panasonic DMC-FX07. I haggled and got one salesguy to not only come down in price, but to throw in a 1GB memory card, carrying case, and pocket tripod.

I played around with it on the way home, so here are some new pics.

This first one is of a bulldozer making its way down the hill. (look for it in the mid-right side, beyond the tree). It was really far away, so I played with the zoom feature. I was actually waiting for the bulldozer to topple sideways.

The last 2 pics are of all of the boats that have flocked to the island for the regatta that I believe starts tomorrow. I'll be able to see them come around the Cupecoy area from my balcony, so hopefully, i'll be able to get some more pics of them.
